Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa
Born in 1934 in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, Fr. Cantalamessa is a Franciscan Capuchin. His reputation as an excellent speaker and theologian led to his appointment to the pontifical household, where, as papal preacher, he gives weekly meditations during the seasons of Advent and Lent. For many years he was professor of history of early Christianity at the Catholic University of Milan and headed the Department of Religious Studies. Fr. Cantalamessa has also served as a member of the International Theological Commission. Since 1980, he has been devoting his time almost exclusively to preaching and evangelizing throughout Italy and in many other parts of the world. His writings include a number of books on theology and spirituality translated into various languages.
